3.Submit this form on Dogathon day itself (12th August 2007) and pay on that day itself too

DOGATHON THE HISTORY….

The problem of stray dogs has always been an issue in our society, but somehow it has never been properly addressed. 10 years ago, the veterinary students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine made a decision to address this social issue through an event they called DOGATHON.

DOGATHON started in 1997 as a platform in addressing the issue of Stray Dog Awareness. This was one way the society could directly, and animals, indirectly play a part in addressing this issue.

Therefore, DOGATHON was initiated as a charity drive, organized by the 3rd year veterinary students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia. DOGATHON is held annually to raise funds in aid of 'Stray Dog Awareness' programs and assist annual activities of Zoologico Club. Even with its serious mission, it is still a fun-filled event, giving exposure to all types of dogs and dog owners to indulge in something out of the ordinary.

The main highlight of the event is the Dogathon Race where dogs and owners are required to run for 2.5 km in the early morning coolness under the shady trees of UPM.

Every year, great games and activities for both dogs and owners have been a hallmark of each DOGATHON.

The Dogathon is unlike any other dog show where dogs are caged-up for the purpose of exhibition. It is an event where pedigree and non-pedigree dogs are all welcome to participate in.

ON-GOING EVENTS

Dog and Owner Look-A-Like

There is a saying “Like Father, Like Son” and thus we can apply to this concept “Like Owner ,Like Dog”. So does you and your dog look-a-like? You can get to know when you join Dog and Owner Look-A-Like. No fees will be charge for this event and you will win great prizes if you and your dog are voted as the most look-a-like couple by the public and the judges.

Lucky Shot

Donate RM1 for “Pro-Kasih” project and you will be given a chance to have two lucky shot on our very own “Royal Dart board”. You will stand a chance to win great prizes by shooting at the target and answer a simple question correctly. If you are unlucky in the two shot, try your luck again!

Castles’ Joy

Feel bored? Come to visit the Castles’ Joy corner where various kinds of fun-fair liked games will be awaiting for you and your dog to play. Just donate RM1 for “Pro-Kasih” you can play all the fun games with your dog and win great prizes. Besides, kids can get free sculptured balloon here tooJ

Lucky Draw

By joining the Dogathon game package you will stand a chance to be a lucky winner for lucky draw. So don’t miss out this chance when your number is being called out!!

Introductory Class to Agility by Pet-N-You

Grab a chance and be one of the first 10 participants to register at Pet-N-You booth to get a free introductory class to agility at the Doggie Playzone area. Learn how to perform some agility tricks there!!

Physical Examination

The physical examination (PE) is made compulsory for all dogs that are to take part in Dogathon 2006. Dogs will be examined on their general well-being, appearance, integuments, lymph nodes, cardiovascular and so on. Dogs which are in heat or of aggressive temperaments are not allowed to take part. The PE is free.

Vet consultation and First Aid

Get your dog’s health status checked by our very own experienced veterinarians of the University Veterinary Hospital (UVH) for just RM3 per check up!! Our first aid team will also be on guard at all times to provide first aid to any injured or dehydrated dogs during the event.

Horse Back Riding

Enjoy your morning with a horseback ride amidst the serene setting of Bukit Ekspo!!

Doggy playzone and Drinking Station

Where do you go when you are tired and want to catch a breath? Why not head over to the food and drinks area while leaving your dogs to play and socialize at the doggy playzone and drinking station area. This area includes wading pools and agility equipments sponsored by Pet-n-You. Doggy playzone is adopted by Pet-n-You.

SPCA and PAWS

Do your bit for animal welfare by purchasing some of their adorable souvenirs or sign-up for volunteering or adopt a pet for your home.

Grooming demo/ services by Yuri Grooming

Think your dog needs a make-over? Drop by at Yuri Grooming and get a completely new and refresh look of your doggie pal!! All proceeds of the grooming will go to help “Pro-Kasih”.

Heartgard and Frontline
Do you want to prevent your precious doggies from fleas and ticks while having an enjoyable day in Dogathon? MAIN EVENTS

Dogathon Race

Get your sports shoe ready!!This is the highlight event of Dogathon in which both the dog and its owner must go on a marathon run of about 2.5 km. The marathon track is filled with challenging obstacles.

Fastest Eating Duo

Woof woof…Are you hungry? If you are, come and join this game where both the dog and its owner will be given food to eat. The winners are those who can finish eating all the food within the shortest period of time. (Adopted by Abco Asia)

Emperor’s New Clothes (New!!)

Grab some new royal clothes for your dog!! This game is actually the combination of musical chair and dress-me-up. When the music starts, the owners have to walk their dogs around a circle. When the music stops, the owner have to “sit” their dogs and rush to a box located in the middle of the field and grab an item to be put on their dogs within 1 minute. 3 rounds are conducted and therefore the owner had 3 chances to grab as much items to be dressed onto their dogs. Master Hunt

Can your dog find you wherever you are? If it does come and join Master Hunt. The owner will be hidden out of the dog's sight within a maze-like area. The dog will be given 2 minutes to detect its owner. At the same time, the dog will be tempted with food and has to overcome several obstacles while on its 'Master Hunting' journey. Best Trick

Sit, Stay, Roll Over, Hand, Jump…..How many tricks can your dog perform in 2 minutes? This is the time for your dog to show off its talent. (Adopted by Universal Stones & Arts)

Agility Challenge (New!!)

The very first Dogathon agility game. The dog will be given 2 minutes to complete the agility course that includes the hurdles, dog-walk, tunnel and A-board. Points will be given for each successful completion of obstacle. Dog that completes the agility course in the shortest time and with the highest score will be the winner. (Adopted by Pet-N-You)

We just have our very first meeting... that's like wow, so much things to think about!!!

Hopefully this blog will be a unique and easy to access place for all the committtee and those who really want to join us as a friends, or anyone who would like to leave their comment about dogathon , eg. what you think about Dogathon , what's your expextation etc. so that we can improve!

Hehe.. please bear with me if sometimes I leave some grumble / I nag in the blog..
